Four Vital Steps if You Don’t Want Your Car to Overheat

Nobody wants their car to overheat, if they’re honest. But it can feel like keeping up with everything regarding car maintenance can be overwhelming at best. This information from L&D Automotive can help.

Pay Attention to the Temperature Gauge

Most of the time your car isn’t likely to be overheating. What that means for the average car owner is that you forget to keep tabs on that all-important temperature gauge. By the time the car is overheating, you might be shocked to see that temperature gauge pegged. If you can retrain yourself to consciously check the temperature gauge more often when you’re driving, you’re better able to notice if it starts to creep up.

Make Sure the Engine Has Plenty of Coolant

It only takes a couple of seconds to check your coolant levels when you’re under the hood checking into other issues. If you’re not already doing either of those things, now might be the time to change that. What you’re looking for with your coolant is that there’s plenty of coolant in the reservoir tank under the hood. The coolant is all through the cooling system, but there’s a reserve in that container. If you check and the reservoir is dry, you’re very low on coolant and need to top it up.

Check Whether You Have Skipped Any Coolant Maintenance

If you haven’t been all that worried about your coolant system, you’re not alone. Lots of car owners don’t think about the coolant system until there’s a problem and the coolant isn’t doing its job. Double check your car’s owner’s manual and see if there are any coolant services that you’ve skipped. These are going to be services like a flush and fill for the coolant system that removes old coolant and replaces it with fresh coolant.

Stay Up to Date with All Other Maintenance, Too

When you’re up to date with other maintenance, too, that helps even further to keep the engine and the entire car in good working order and running within the proper temperatures. Skipping or putting off routine services like oil changes does nothing good for your car.

Don’t let your car overheat because you’ve overlooked something. Contact L&D Automotive in Lavon, TX today and we’re always happy to help. We can check over everything with your car and make sure that all is well so that you can rest assured that it won’t be overheating anytime soon.
